What do we do?
Analysis and design of materials and structures to optimise strength, stiffness and durability. Materials expertise includes synthetic and bio-based composites, polymers, metals and ceramics. Finite element analysis, including non-linear materials and geometry, dynamics, and numerical optimisation.
Experimental characterisation of materials and products, including composite laminates, sandwich structures and prototype components. Expertise includes both development of standards based testing programmes, and development of novel testing methods for static, dynamic and fatigue performance.
Development and optimisation of innovative products for marine, aeronautical, sporting and industrial sectors. Verification of product performance, both in the laboratory and in the field.
Other capabilities include:
Providing training in topics such as mechanics of composite materials, finite element analysis, non-destructive inspection and materials characterisation.
Assisting companies to formulate research and development plans, apply for funding grants, and manage their ongoing R&D projects.
